Longwood University Selects Builder for $73M Performing Arts Center

Longwood University in Farmville, Va., recently announced that it has selected Swedish construction company Skanska as the builder of its new performing arts center, according to online news. The project involves the demolition of the current building and constructing a new, 64,500-square-foot facility.

Amenities will include music classrooms, rehearsal space, performance areas, administrative space, and a concert hall with 500 seats, according to local news. It will also play home to all existing university music and performing arts program currently based out of the existing facility.

It was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. Construction began in August 2025 and has an estimated completion date of April 2028, online news reports.

According to Yahoo! Finance, the contract for the project is valued at $67 million and will be recorded in Skanska’s U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.
