Recent research has focused on key factors for that contribute to student persistence and success. One of these factors is the development of Learning Communities, cohort groups that strengthen bonds between students and their studies. SmithGroup has been exploring how informal learning environments might be designed to encourage and support inclusive learning communities. Student interviews, focus groups and post occupancy evaluations have informed our designs in recent higher education projects, which we will share. Followed by this discussion, we will explore with you how designing for inclusive learning communities might become a priority in building projects, and programs. Be ready to be engaged!
