California School Unveils Renovated Campus

Inglewood Charter MiddleOn Saturday, November 4, Environmental Charter Middle School-Inglewood’s (ECMS-I) hosted their second annual Harvest Festival where they officially revealed their newly renovated campus, including the first-ever double-story modular construction using shipping containers in California used to build their classrooms. These containers came from the Port of Long Beach, where there are 750,000 retired shipping containers waiting to be repurposed.

Each standard 1280 square foot classroom diverts 22-tons of waste from local landfills reducing waste and minimizing the impact on natural resources.

The students led campus tours, harvested vegetables and California native plants, showed off their compost process, new dry creek bed and even put on a lunch featuring a kale salad from their campus garden.

The day also welcomed councilman Ralph Franklin from the City of Inglewood along with Los Angeles County Office of Education Board President Alex Johnson and several community partners who participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
