Small Design Moves Create Big Campus Impact

Date: Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 11am PT / 2pm ET

Colleges and Universities face big challenges in the areas of deferred maintenance, the need for infrastructure renewal, increasing accessibility and campus climate commitments to decarbonization. Continued upward pressure on construction costs has exacerbated the ability of institutions to address these concerns with limited capital resources. This webinar will showcase how Finegold Alexander Architects worked with Wellesley College to navigate these potentially conflicting priorities, and identified an approach to renovating their historic residential portfolio that addressed these campus needs while finding creative ways to make a positive impact for students, faculty and the institution all within a tight budget.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Detail an existing conditions exploration process to address the characteristics and challenges of each of the buildings on your campus relative to your carbon reduction goals.
  • Describe an inclusive process of engaging various stakeholders and leveraging collected data to develop a project priority list.
  • Identify design moves that address multiple project goals
  • Identify ways to fit and phase project schedules into institutional calendars to create less disruption.
