Monmouth College Debuts New Online Campus Hub with Digital Mapping Platform

BOULDER, CO — Monmouth College, a nationally ranked residential college dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education, has introduced a new online mapping platform that acts as the information hub of a $120 million campus expansion.

Since 2002, a new football stadium, tennis stadium, athletic complex, science and business academic halls and two dormitories have been added to the college. The interactive map, based on the CampusBird product from concept3D, features these additions and more through panoramas, high-resolution photographs and detailed text descriptions. Built on top of Google Maps, the technology is viewable online and via smartphone and allows for panning and zooming.

“With $120 million in investments on campus since 2002, Monmouth College has one of the finest small college campuses in the nation,” says Timothy Keefauver, vice president for Strategic Initiatives. “We needed a way for prospective students to realize this and thus be motivated to visit. CampusBird does that for us.”

Prospective students can visit the campus virtually and get a real sense of what the campus is like thanks in part to the more than 50 360-degree interior and exterior panoramas the map contains. They can see what it would be like to hit the books at the Hewes Library, relax in the sun-filled rooms of Pattee Hall, and even throw the winning touchdown pass in the middle of April Zorn Memorial Stadium.

The map’s text supports the richness of the campus offerings by telling the story of the school. The buildings, programs and philosophy of the school are described in detail in so that visitors understand the college’s unique identity. For example, the description of the Center for Science and Business describes why in 2014 Money magazine ranked Monmouth 15th out of 665 Best Colleges for "Colleges That Add the Most Value, “in part due to the school’s 99 percent employment rate and practice of “active learning.”

“We are committed to the full immersive experience because we believe it to be much more transformative,” Keefauver adds. “The map reflects this and allows us to truly show what it’s like to be part of a college campus where the campus is a destination in and of itself.”
