ASCD Announces 2014 Class of Emerging Leaders

Alexandria, VA (6/4/2014) – ASCD, a global community dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, has selected 45 educators for the 2014 Class of Emerging Leaders. The ASCD Emerging Leaders program is designed to prepare a young, diverse group of educators for potential influence and ASCD leadership.

Through the two-year Emerging Leaders program, the new class will help advance ASCD’s positions and values, participate in shaping education policy and advocating for the whole child, and explore multiple ASCD leadership pathways.  Activities may include serving on committees, hosting networking events for educators, advocating for sound education policy, and contributing to ASCD publications such as Educational Leadership and the Inservice blog.

As previously announced, the 2014 Class of Emerging Leaders will receive exclusive access to a pool of grant funds. The grant program is designed to support students through innovative approaches to whole child education and to help emerging leaders grow professionally.

“ASCD is dedicated to cultivating and supporting the next generation of education leaders,” said Acting Executive Director of ASCD Judy Seltz. “This carefully selected group of educators demonstrates a passion for teaching, learning, and leadership, and each holds promise as a future leader for students around the world.”

With more educators accepted than ever before, the 2014 Class of Emerging Leaders is diverse both professionally and regionally. With occupations ranging from Principals to Library Media Specialists, and educators coming from across the nation from Maryland to New Mexico, the new class will provide a range of outlooks and ideas for the education industry.

Typically, emerging leaders have been in the education profession approximately 5 to 15 years; exhibit a broad range of diversity in position, location, cultural background, and perspective; hold promise as leaders; and are committed to ASCD’s beliefs and to pursuing leadership opportunities.
