Workshop for Facilities Professionals at Kent State University
KENT, OH — J+J Flooring Group is partnering with APPA, the leading world-wide professional association of education facility managers, to present a Facilities Drive-In Workshop Tuesday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, OH. A content focus has been developed for the workshop that has strategic application to financial outcomes and student and faculty satisfaction in education facilities.
The primary session will address branding and the built environment and the benefits of leveraging facilities to enhance the brand awareness and preference for educational institutions.
The afternoon session will explore the emergence of “evidence-based design” in the product evaluation and selection process for commercial interiors. Using flooring as an example, this conversation will touch on measurable functional attributes of flooring that should be included in the specification process, including acoustics, slip/fall characteristics and injury reduction, anti-fatigue properties, sustainability and compatibility with high-moisture concrete slabs.
Experienced presenters and subject matter experts have been carefully selected to serve as session leaders. Eileen Jones, principal with the global architecture and design firm Perkins+Will, will lead the session on branding in higher education. As the global discipline leader for the firm’s Branded Environments, Jones is a noted expert in the field of brand master planning, strategy and design development of brand expression in the built environment.
Keith Gray, a recognized leader in evidence-based designed flooring research, will lead the “The Power of Research-Based Design” session. The director of Product Innovation at J+J Flooring Group, Gray is frequent presenter at education-specific industry conferences and holds more than 20 U.S. and foreign patents for commercial flooring coverings and other materials.
“Educational institutions have a tremendous opportunity today to drive positive financial and stakeholder outcomes by leveraging their brands and considering evidence-based design for their flooring selection,” says J+J Flooring Group’s Director of Business Development for Education David Daughtrey. “This workshop will provide facility professionals the insight, tools and real-world examples they need to implement successful branding and evidence-based flooring specifications at their institutions.”
The workshop is geared to local area technical and non-technical facility professionals at all levels who work at public and private educational institutions, including K-12 schools, colleges and universities. Facility professionals at museums and libraries are also welcomed to attend.
There is no fee for attendance, but space is limited. In addition to a complementary continental breakfast and lunch, attendees will earn .4 CEUs, four PDH units and four LUs. Each session will include the use of audience-response technology, allowing attendees to participate with individual feedback and personalized interactivity.
The event is part of a series of educational programs sponsored by J+J Flooring Group and APPA that is being held throughout the United States in 2015.
