Fastspot Redesigns Amherst College Website

BALTIMORE, MD – Fastspot, an interactive design agency headquartered in Baltimore, partnered with Massachusetts’ Amherst College to launch a redesign of its website: www.amherst.edu. Amherst College, one of the most prestigious liberal arts institutions in the U.S., is committed to diversity, academic excellence and intellectual discovery. The redesigned website helps to convey the true spirit of the college through structure, content and design.

“The new Amherst College website delivers a browsing experience that is both elegant and functional,” says Roberta Diehl, director of digital communications at Amherst. “We’re excited about the focus that the opening page places on Amherst’s unique academic experience.”

The new Amherst website is simple, yet powerful. Fastspot recommended a streamlined navigational structure and design, which allows the stories of the college to speak for themselves. Work on the redesigned site included discovery and needs assessment, information architecture, design and development. The new site was developed using Drupal, Amherst’s existing content management system. Amherst was able to retain elements and functionality that were already working well, while Fastspot designed and implemented a more streamlined and intuitive experience for content creators.

“We were honored to have the opportunity to work with Amherst College on this project,” says Tracey Halvorsen, president and chief visionary officer at Fastspot. “Amherst has a very unique point of view and is an institution like no other. Our challenge was to create a site that accommodates best practices in higher education website design while also allowing Amherst to stand apart in an authentic way.”

Fastspot has over 15 years of experience delivering award-winning interactive design to a varied client base including colleges, large universities, cultural institutions and non-profits. Other recent launches have included websites for Lafayette College, the University of San Francisco and Yale University.
