Chaffey College to Build New Library Learning Commons

Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., recently announced a construction initiative that will replace its existing library with a new Library Learning Commons, according to a news release. The 77,000-square-foot facility will offer programs and amenities like information and learning services, a faculty success center, supplemental instruction spaces, support for distance education, multimedia and editing studios, and more. The space will be designed by DLR Group, which will also handle construction alongside Swinerton Builders, and is scheduled for completion in March 2025.

“We look forward to serving the students and faculty at Chaffey College by designing a beautiful, accessible, and well-equipped library,” said Jason Jewell, AIA, Senior Associate and Architect with DLR Group. “DLR Group knows how crucial libraries are in helping college students and faculty succeed at every level, so it’s our honor to design something that will aid in Chaffey’s overall success.”

The building will feature biophilic design elements like merged indoor and outdoor study areas, daylit interiors, and carefully curated views of the nearby San Gabriel Mountains. Its location will position it as one of the campus’ cornerstone buildings, and the new facility will feature upgraded information resources and technology to serve both in-person and distance learners. It will also include a variety of multi-purpose spaces for individual study, collaborative group work, and large gatherings.
