California High School Celebrates Groundbreaking for Campus Improvements

Kearny High School in San Diego, Calif., recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the construction of a new classroom building and a slew of campus upgrades, according to a news release. The latest in an ongoing series of bond-funded upgrades includes a new, two-story classroom and student services facility; renovations of nine classrooms, the dining area, and the softball field; and the creation of outdoor learning spaces. Construction has an estimated completion date of winter 2026.

The upgrades started in 2010 and have so far included a college, career, and technical education center; facilities for arts, media, and entertainment; a new engineering innovation design lab; upgrades to athletic and gymnasium facilities; and the installation of solar voltaic panels.

The new facility will replace the campus’ outdated student services building. Amenities will include a lobby, classrooms, student support spaces and collaborative workspaces, and updated security technology. Modernizations to classrooms will include “new furniture, flooring, door hardware, sinks, whiteboards, and technology upgrades. Outdoor improvements include new outdoor collaborative learning spaces, upgraded signage and exterior paint, and new fencing and gates to direct visitors to the secure main campus entryway,” the news release reports.
