Dissertation-Free Doctor of Education Arrives at Nebraska Methodist College

OMAHA, NE – Nebraska Methodist College is branching out with a degree that will allow education and healthcare professionals to reach the upper echelons of their fields.

The Ed.D. in Education and Leadership in Healthcare is an online program designed for Master’s-prepared leaders to attain their terminal degrees. Upon completion, students will be ready to take on leadership roles in both healthcare and academic settings.

“With our focus on practice as well as theory, our Doctor of Education is the perfect fit for those who want to enact real change at an organizational level,” says Dr. Dennis Joslin, president and CEO of Nebraska Methodist College. “Healthcare and academics both stand at a crossroads, and we’re uniquely positioned to offer our students an education that will allow them to make thoughtful management decisions that have far-reaching consequences for our nation’s hospitals and colleges.”

The Doctor of Education also offers something that no other Ed.D. in the region can claim: a Capstone as opposed to a dissertation.

“The cumbersome dissertation process has grown ineffective due to the arduous and unnecessary requirements it imposes on students,” says Dr. Alice Kindschuh, director of Doctoral Studies at Nebraska Methodist College. “The Capstone, on the other hand, acts as a true barometer of a graduate’s abilities in the professional arena. They put research into practice, demonstrating their mastery of a given subject by applying the knowledge they’ve absorbed into a real-world environment.”

The application process for the Ed.D., with class set to begin in August 2017, is now open. Interested persons can visit methodistcollege.edu/edd for a full description of courses, application requirements, cost and more.
