Georgia District Breaks Ground on $118M K–12 Facility

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, Sept. 30, for a new K–12 Multi-Campus facility for Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools in Garden City, Ga. The facility comes with an estimated price tag of $118 million and will cover almost 400,000 square feet. The facility will consolidate students from three local schools—Gould Elementary School, Mercer Middle School and Groves High School—underneath one roof, and it is scheduled to open in August 2023. The school is being built on the former site of Groves High School.

The campus will include amenities like a digital media lab; CTAE labs for aviation and logistics as well as business and family consumer sciences; a football stadium; a track-and-field area; soccer fields and tennis courts; a baseball field and softball field; two indoor gyms; and a 750-seat, two-story auditorium featuring a full-size performance stage. The campus will feature three paved parking lots with a capacity for 660 cars. Construction also includes the installation of a new traffic signal and the campus’ entrance for more controlled traffic flow.

The facility will have a capacity for 2,400 students. It is being funded through Education Special Purpose Local Sales Tax III dollars. The district is partnering with Charles Perry Partners, Inc., for construction.
