Nova Southeastern University Announces Education Initiative Centered on Cloud Computing

When it comes to understanding cloud computing and that it entails, finding those with the necessary skills-set can be difficult. Seeing a gap in number of available staff, Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS) is proud to announce a new education initiative centered on cloud computing.

This initiative will be powered by Dell PowerEdge servers provided through the Dell Seed Grant program, a donation of storage virtualization software from DataCore Software, and managed services provider Host.net.

“Recent studies in industry publications have shown more than half of C-level executives are reporting that finding qualified staff to design and manage newer IT concepts such as cloud computing is very challenging.” says James Parrish, Ph.D., an associate professor of information systems at GSCIS, “This initiative will help address this challenge by allowing us to expand on our current cloud computing curriculum so our graduates have knowledge of those aspects of cloud computing valued by our industry partners.”

“Host.net has been a supporter of NSU for many years and jumped at the opportunity to champion this initiative,” says Lenny Chesal, CMO of Host.net. “As a leading provider of cloud and colocation solutions in South Florida we can think of no greater cause than supporting our university partners in educating their students in the latest cloud technologies to generate the pipeline of qualified graduates for the growing number of job opportunities in South Florida.”

The hardware and software for this initiative will join the Megalodon supercomputer to enhance the universities’ cloud computing related offerings as well supporting the Business Intelligence/Analytics program and STEM education initiatives.
