Georgetown University Introduces Two Professional Master's Degrees in Higher Education

WASHINGTON, DC – Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies recently expanded its graduate degree offerings to include the higher education sector. Two new programs — the Executive Master of Professional Studies in Global Higher Education and the Master of Professional Studies in Higher Education Administration — will welcome their inaugural classes in fall 2018.

The Higher Education Institutions of Tomorrow
As one of the world's leading academic and research institutions, Georgetown University is well positioned to train graduate students in the field of higher education. In response to rapid changes within higher education — the rise of digital technology; increasing student mobility; and a changing student demographic that is the most racially, socioeconomically and academically diverse in history — colleges and universities must adopt a nimble approach to serving their students. According to Kelly Otter, Ph.D., dean of Georgetown's School of Continuing Studies, the insights gained in these higher education programs will position students to lead institutions of higher education into the future.

"Higher education is among the most competitive industries in the United States; colleges and universities that attract and retain bold, entrepreneurial thinkers and leaders will be positioned for success in this evolving ecosystem," Dean Otter says.

A Complete Exploration of Higher Education
The Master's in Higher Education Administration examines the scope of functions across the full range of higher education institutions — from the central role of operations to related responsibilities within key areas such as academic advising, admissions, and alumni relations. Two optional focus areas, student affairs and administration, will allow students to specialize.

The program is designed to fit the busy schedule of a working professional. With evening and online class options, students can complete their graduate degree without interrupting their careers. Taught by faculty with both professional experience and traditional academic expertise, the courses range from Ethics and Leadership in Higher Education to Budgeting and Finance to
Student Learning Outcomes Assessments — positioning students to become forward-thinking practitioners equipped to add value in the higher education sector.

Education on a Global Scale
The cohort-based Executive Master of Professional Studies in Global Higher Education provides an immersive, collaborative, and dynamic learning experience. With the goal of educating leaders to oversee initiatives across cultural and international borders, the program takes a comprehensive approach to global higher education, examining the range of complex content areas across the international education landscape, from accreditation and compliance to finance and cultural awareness.

The five-semester experience blends online coursework with four on-site residencies—both within and outside the U.S. — where students will gain hands-on practice addressing complexities within different geographical and cultural education frameworks.

The Master's in Higher Education Administration and Executive Master's in Global Higher Education have begun accepting applications for the Fall 2018 Semester.
