Pittsburgh High School Upgrades Athletics Facilities’ Technology

Plum Senior High School in Pittsburgh, Penn., recently partnered with South-Dakota-based Daktronics through the We’re All Mustangs Here Foundation to upgrade the technology in its athletics facilities, according to a news release. Daktronics designed, built, and installed new LED video displays and finished the project in time for the beginning of the 2025 high-school football season.

The installation includes an outdoor video display for the football stadium, an indoor video display in the gym, scoreboards for each venue, pre-loaded digital content for the displays, a subscription to a Daktronics platform that creates additional content, and a curriculum on how to instruct students in operating the equipment, the news release reports.

“This is about more than installing a new display for Plum Senior High School to use. It’s about giving their students the tools to learn and gain real-world experiences in the production space,” said Kyle Sydow, high schools market manager for Daktronics. “They can create graphics, play them back on the displays, learn how to operate video cameras and equipment—everything that goes into a game day or broadcast production is at their fingertips.”

DakClassroom is a CTE-aligned curriculum that provides students with the technical terminology, skills, experience, and confidence to use the equipment in live game-day situations. FrameWrx is a content design platform equipped with customizable, school-branded templates so that users can create their own messages.

Meanwhile, the outdoor video display measures 25 feet by 12 feet with 10mm pixel spacing. The unit is outfitted with environmental protection designed to withstand Philadelphia winters. The indoor display measures 20 feet by 11 feet with 5.9mm pixel spacing, and both displays can display either one large image or multiple content zones.

Content options include instant replays, live video, graphics, game information, and advertising, the news release reports.
