BioFit Cafeteria Tables Case Study
This study examines cafeteria-table-related safety issues identified by Washington State Education Service District (ESD) 113 Workers’ Compensation Trust (WCT) as the cause of nearly $400,000 in losses incurred from claims, and why the WCT determined the best solution to significantly reduce table-related injurious exposure to maintenance staff was to replace its outdated tables with new BioFit models.
The WCT oversaw an evaluation to measure the force required to fold existing cafeteria tables and new BioFit tables. Results revealed the lifting force needed to fold existing tables greatly exceeded maximum recommendations of occupational safety and health organizations, putting staff at risk, while the peak force required to close BioFit tables was well below minimum recommendations.
Based on testing results and additional safety features offered on BioFit tables, including an adjustable torsion capability, ESD 113 selected BioFit 10-Seat Oval™, Rectangular with bench seating and AdapTable™ models for school cafeterias in its region.
