Open Submissions for "Veteran School Salute" Award

SIMI VALLEY, CA — The MilitaryConnection.com Veteran School Salute is awarded to Veteran-friendly colleges, universities and vocational schools that go above and beyond to provide premium education services for their military, veteran and military-dependent students. In recognition for their extensive efforts to the military community on their campuses, MilitaryConnection.com salutes these schools and their administrators.

“In honor of the December launch of the newly redesigned MilitaryConnection.com website, not just one, but two additional schools will be chosen to receive the Veteran School Salute,” says CEO Debbie Gregory. She continued, “This will end 2014 on a high note for two great schools.”

The new website will still have the resources and information you have come to expect from MilitaryConnection.com, but will be easier to navigate, and will be responsive for use on smartphones and tablets. In addition to the GI Bill education benefit information featured on the website, there are a multitude of other resources for students and prospective students, including a scholarship directory and BAH housing calculator.

If your school features specialized programs for educating Veteran students, and is deserving of this award, email your nomination to [email protected].

Since 2009, there have been over one million veterans who have utilized their Post-9/11 GI Bill. There are also hundreds of thousands of college students who are either active duty military, reservists, veterans or military spouses or children using a multitude of benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. With so many students from the military community seeking higher education, there have been an increasingly high number of institutions that deliberately seek out these students in order to take advantage of their government-paid tuition benefits.

GI Bill and military Tuition Assistance students are discovering that they have a choice of schools when it comes to using their benefits. MilitaryConnection.com’s “Veteran School Salute” award is intended to show military and veteran students that the schools receiving the award have the students’ best interests in mind.

“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our nation, a quality education is the least we can do to thank them,” says Gregory. “The ‘Veteran School Salute’ is designed to show Veterans which schools are providing for their specific needs as non-traditional students.”

Previous recipients of the “Veteran School Salute” are Sullivan University Systems in Kentucky, and D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY. Sullivan received the prestigious award for their relationship with the Army community, providing top-quality, individualized care for their military and veteran students. D’Youville received their award because of their innovative efforts on behalf of their military students, including special grants and book vouchers made available to GI Bill students to close the gap while they await their stipends.
