Kajeet, Google Cloud Partner to Provide Private 5G to Schools

Private wireless provider Kajeet recently announced a partnership with Google to deploy its Private 5G platform through Google Distributed Cloud Edge. According to a news release, the goal of the collaboration is to connect students and communities with high-quality wireless internet; to make it easier for students to learn from anywhere by combining Kajeet’s networks with Google Chromebook and Classroom EDU solutions; and to enhance classroom learning activities by providing a next-generation immersive learning experience.

The White House reports that more than 30 million Americans live in areas without sufficient broadband infrastructure. Kajeet and Google are harnessing Kajeet’s Secure Private 5G networks to provide WiFi to environments like schools, neighboring communities, libraries, community colleges and universities.

“Google has been a longstanding partner in our education business for equitable access and network reliability to students using Google Chromebooks. We are very excited to extend our partnership in enabling a unique Private 5G experience to schools and students across America,” said Derrick Frost, Kajeet’s SVP and GM of Private Wireless Networks. “Google Distributed Cloud helps us realize economies of scale in a common environment encompassing private networks at the edge, a private data center, and the public cloud. It enables us to deliver a consistent set of security, lifecycle management, policy, and orchestration of resources across all customer locations.”

A news release reports that through Google Cloud, Kajeet’s Private 5G Platform will improve the cost-efficiency of deploying private LTE and 5G both indoors and outdoors; will provide a Smart 5G experience with AI/ML-powered analytics, software-defined automation, and enhanced security; will increase simplicity and flexibility; and will provide an accelerated open innovation with rich Open APIs.

“School districts are already familiar with Google for Chromebooks and Classroom, and we are excited to partner with Kajeet to support their Private 5G Platform,” said Google Cloud Director of Education Steven Butschi. “For underserved communities, private networks can deliver affordable access to high-quality Internet to level the playing field and improve education outcomes.”

The facility was designed by CO Architects and will unite the university’s departments of Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics, and Earth and Environmental Science.
