Inglewood Unified School District Breaks Ground on New High School

The Inglewood Unified School District in Inglewood, Calif., recently broke ground on a new campus for Inglewood High School, according to a news release. The project has a budget of about $240 million, funding coming through bond proceeds from Measure I. According to the news release, the campus was designed to “foster critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability” and features amenities like collaborative classrooms, labs equipped with modern technology, and flexible learning environments.

The district partnered with Balfour Beatty as general contractor, Cordoba Corporation for construction management, and Practice for architectural design. The campus will measure in at more than 150,000 square feet including two new CTE buildings, arts and performance spaces, STEM labs, and athletic facilities, the news release reports.

“This is more than groundbreaking; this is a promise,” said IUSD County Administrator Dr. James Morris. “We are promising our students a future where innovation, access, and excellence intersect. This investment reflects our unwavering belief that every student in Inglewood deserves a world-class education in a world-class learning environment, one that prepares them to step confidently into their future.”

According to the district website, other site development work will include landscaping, exterior lighting, new outdoor basketball and tennis courts, a new artificial turf field, a solar array installation, and new parking & drop-off areas. The project has an estimated completion date of December 2027.

"Breaking ground on Inglewood High represents a pivotal moment for this community and marks another opportunity for our company to play a role in transforming educational environments across California," said Emily Kay, Balfour Beatty president in California. "As we begin construction on this state-of-the-art facility, we're excited to work with Inglewood Unified School District and our industry partners to bring our client’s vision to reality. This milestone exemplifies our dedication to delivering innovative learning spaces that will serve students and families for generations to come.”
