Academy of Classical Education Breaks Ground in Louisiana

Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) recently announced the groundbreaking of a new public charter school in Covington, La., according to a news release. The Academy of Classical Education at Covington will enroll students in grades K–8 and is scheduled for completion in August 2026, just in time for the new school year. CSUSA partnered with Ryan Companies, the St. Tammany Charter Foundation and Red Apple Development.

According to the news release, the school will offer a “classical, liberal arts-based education focused on academic excellence, character development, and civic virtue.” Instruction will be based on the Trivium—an educational framework consisting of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric—and the school will be the first of its kind in the area to offer a classical education.

“This project represents more than a testament to our strong relationship with CSUSA,” said Nathan Golik, Ryan Companies’ south central region president. “Showcasing Ryan’s expertise as a premier builder in the core education sector, the development reinforces our commitment to delivering modern educational centers. The Academy of Classical Education at Covington will create lasting value and become a source of pride for the Covington community.”

Amenities are set to include collaborative workspaces, athletic facilities, open learning spaces, specialty breakout rooms, and dedicated lab space for art, science, and music classes.

The news release reports that CSUSA currently operates 13 charter schools in Louisiana and more than 150 across the United States.
