Florida District Completes Construction on New Leadership Institute

Pinellas County Schools near Tampa, Fla., recently announced that construction is complete on the new Dr. Michael A. Grego Leadership Institute, according to a news release. The district partnered with Rowe Architects for the project’s design and with Skanska for construction services. The new facility measures 14,690 square feet and will serve working professionals in both the district and the community at large.

Building amenities include a large training room that can also host community events, smaller breakout spaces, kitchen facilities, and a parking lot with 50 spaces. Construction involved demolishing two existing structures (a 7,400-square-foot professional education building and a 2,000-square-foot ancillary building) to clear room for the new structure.

“We’re proud to deliver the new Dr. Michael A. Grego Leadership Institute, a modern and flexible facility that will support professional development and educational advancement across Pinellas County,” said Skanska Vice President Daniel Abou-Jaoude. “From the careful demolition of existing structures to the creation of a versatile and modern learning center, our team worked closely with Pinellas County Schools to create a high-quality educational environment that will serve the community by supporting working professionals, strengthening the local talent pipeline, and helping to fill critical workforce needs across the region.”

The new building is named after retired district superintendent Dr. Michael A Grego, the news release reports. The building is a response to a rising statewide demand for more CTE and vocational amenities; enrollment in these programs has grown by more than 20 percent since 2021.
