CU-Lock Haven Receives $1.75M Gift for New Entrepreneurship, Media Center
Commonwealth University-Lock Haven in Lock Haven, Penn., recently received a $1.75-million donation from entrepreneur and alumnus Nicholas Subich ’17, according to a university news release. The funds will go toward establishing the Nicholas Subich Center for Entrepreneurship and Media, a technology-driven hub for innovation and experiential learning.
The facility’s goal is to ignite collaboration between the university and community partners and provide hands-on, career-focused learning opportunities for students. From the funding, $1 million will go toward construction and renovation of the center itself, which will be located in Bentley Hall, and the remaining $750,000 toward supporting a new faculty member, the news release reports.
"This is a transformational moment for Commonwealth University-Lock Haven," said Dr. Jeff Osgood, Commonwealth University president. "Nick and Gina's extraordinary generosity reflects a deep belief in the future of our students and in the power of experiential education. The Nicholas Subich Center for Entrepreneurship and Media will serve as a cornerstone for entrepreneurship, creativity and media excellence while creating meaningful opportunities for collaboration between the university and the broader community."
Amenities will include a student lounge and modernized classroom with upgraded technology, updated lighting, and flexible furniture configurations. The space will also feature a podcast and media studio for both business and media & journalism students.
"I wanted this to be more than just a classroom or recording studio," said Subich. "I wanted it to be a space where students can gather, create, collaborate and gain real-world experience together. Whether students are developing a business idea, producing a podcast or building professional skills, this center is meant to help prepare them for career success before they graduate. It's important to me that this becomes a campus-wide and community resource. Some of the best opportunities happen when people come together, share ideas and learn from one another."
