Western Kentucky University, Gilbane Announce “Elevate WKU” Partnership

Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., recently announced that it has reached the financial close on a on a public-private partnership (P3) with Gilbane Development, according to a news release. The $350-million “Elevate WKU” student housing partnership was recently approved by the university’s Board of Regents on April 24 and by the state’s Capital Projects and Bond Oversight Committee on April 27.

The initiative will replace outdated campus residences with “living-learning environments” to modernize university infrastructure and enhance the student experience. It also involves the construction of a new residence hall with a capacity of about 1,000 beds. The facility is expected to begin construction this fall and open to students in fall 2028.

The new residential facilities will include collaborative study lounges, integrated community hubs, social spaces, a great hall, a campus dining space, and living-learning communities (LLCs).

“Western Kentucky University is responding directly to the changing landscape of higher education, where students have high expectations and evolving needs for the on-campus experience that starts with modern spaces that support the residential experience and student success,” said Geoff Eisenacher, Gilbane Development’s Vice President of Development. “Elevate WKU is a comprehensive strategy to unlock the University’s full potential, and Gilbane is proud to partner with WKU and its leadership to deliver this new residential experience as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

Collegiate facility management firm Inwood Management will take charge of physical maintenance and day-to-day operations of the university’s entire residential portfolio, the news release reports.
