Clemson University to Renovate Auditorium

Local news reports that the Board of Trustees at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., recently approved renovations to Tillman Hall Auditorium which will begin later this year.

University spokesperson Joe Galbraith said that no work has been done on the building in more than 40 years. “Classroom space is at a premium all around campus and certainly the opportunity to have a large auditorium-style classroom that we can use throughout the year is an important piece—but also, this building hasn’t been renovated since 1981,” he said. “So the opportunity to really update some of the infrastructure and this space and make it more usable for a variety of events, it’s time.”

Renovations will include repositioning the space, adding natural light, new HVAC and lighting, new seating, and upgrades to the auditorium’s infrastructure, according to local news.

“Beginning this September, this entire auditorium will be—in some ways—resorted back to one of its early forms, as well as upgraded to serve as more of a multipurpose area for consistent use as a classroom and as an auditorium,” said Galbraith.

Construction is set to begin this fall, and the project will cost an estimated $11.5 million, according to local news station WYFF.
