UT System Board of Regents Approves $108M Housing Complex

The University of Texas System Board of Regents recently announced the approval of a new, $108-million housing complex at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), according to a news release. The facility will stand four stories and have a total of 456 new beds for freshmen students. The university’s housing has been at 100% capacity for the last four years, creating a need on campus for more.

Facility amenities will include lounges, a study room, a fitness center, and large dining hall with a university meal plan, according to the news release.

“More and more students and families are putting their trust in a UTEP education, and we’re bursting at the seams, as reflected in our recent record enrollment,” said Heather Wilson, UTEP President.

The university partnered with Ayers Saint Gross for the building’s design, and the facility is scheduled to open its doors to students in 2028. The funds will come from the UT System’s Revenue Financing Systems, which will UTEP will eventually pay back via housing revenue, the news release reports.

“We intend for this housing complex to be cost-effective and as affordable as possible for future students,” said Brendan Gallagher, UTEP’s vice president of business affairs. “It will have competitive pricing for our region.”
