Virco's extensive Civitas™ collection for the common-area furniture needs of colleges and universities now features seating models that combine the elegant Civitas steel frame with an ergonomically sculpted plywood seat and back. Other Civitas models are now available with a comfortably supportive, extra-large chair shell from the new Analogy™ Series. Designed by the award-winning team of Peter Glass and Bob Mills — who collaborated with Virco on the popular ZUMA® and Sage™ seating lines — Analogy incorporates the ergonomic benefits of ZUMA and Sage at an even more competitive price point.
Whether equipped with a plywood seat and back or an Analogy “EL” shell, Civitas 18-inch seat-height chairs can be ordered with your choice of glides (nylon-, felt-, rubber- or steel-base) or casters to complement various flooring surfaces; 25- and 30-inch seat-height stools are offered with the same glide choices, but not with casters.
These newest models further expand your Civitas seating alternatives for food-service environments, student unions, libraries, media centers, circulation areas and related on-campus settings. Other Civitas chairs and stools can be ordered with a ZUMA shell; as Virco’s most popular recently released furniture line, ZUMA provides comfortable seating solutions for students and instructors with a wide range of body types.
Civitas seating items can also be specified with a generously proportioned Sage™ shell. By incorporating ZUMA’s contours and adding a larger, wider backrest, Sage offers exceptionally supportive seating for taller and larger people. And for environments where upholstered seating is desired, Civitas models with a Sage shell can be outfitted with a color-coordinated seat pad.
Additional Civitas models are available with a ZUMAfrd™ seat and back made of highly sustainable Fortified Recycled Wood™ hard plastic. ZUMAfrd components are exceptionally sustainable because their Fortified Recycled Wood ingredient mix can include materials derived from Virco’s pioneering Take-Back program, which helps customers recycle furniture that’s been withdrawn from service rather than sending it to a landfill.
Prior to Take-Back’s launch in 2006, people usually had little choice but to throw away most out-of-service furniture components, such as injection-molded chair shells; laminated work surfaces; and compressionmolded or solid wood seats, backs and work surfaces. Since Take-Back’s introduction, customers — including educational institutions from California to Pennsylvania — have partnered with Virco to prolong the useful life of several tons of furniture-component materials. When available, selected Take-Back materials can be introduced into the Fortified Recycled Wood ingredient mix that’s used to make ZUMAfrd seats and backs for Civitas seating.
To go with the diverse Civitas line-up of chairs and stools, Virco offers a great selection of visually coordinated Civitas tabletops and tulip-shaped bases.
Elegant Civitas tabletops come in round, square and “squircle” shapes featuring a plywood-core, high-pressure laminate construction and three distinctively different edge profiles. When paired with these tops, Civitas tulip-shaped table bases can provide: a 30-inch top height for use with 18-inch seat-height Civitas chairs; a 36-inch top height for use with 25-inch seat-height Civitas stools; or a 41-inch top height for use with 30-inch seat-height Civitas stools.
