Dickinson College and Rapid Insight Team Up to Host Predictive Modeling Workshop for Enrollment Management

CONWAY, NH — Dickinson College and Rapid Insight Inc. have partnered to offer a free, one-day predictive modeling workshop for college admissions and enrollment offices.

Predictive modeling has become an important piece of the equation for institutions looking to shape their class and deal with declining enrollment. Enrollment models enable colleges and universities to assign an enrollment probability score to each applicant in order to make decisions and predictions about the incoming class based on the admitted applicant pool.

Participants in the workshop will walk through the predictive modeling process using their own admissions data, sharing modeling techniques and practices to build their own models using Rapid Insight Analytics software. By the end of the day, the goal is for all participants to have a better understanding of predictive modeling and to have built a preliminary model to develop for their own use for enrollment management.

“As an institutional researcher who wishes to move the data analysis efforts on my campus from descriptive to inferential to predictive, I signed my office up for this hands-on learning opportunity to build predictive enrollment models to strengthen our recruitment and retention initiatives at my institution,” says Jason Schweitzer, director of Institutional Research at Rutgers University – Camden.

The workshop, which takes place on August 4th at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, is being organized by Dr. Michael Johnson, director of Institutional Research at the college.

Dr. Johnson came up with the idea a few months ago and shared the concept with Rapid Insight staff as well as other universities in the area, who all showed interest.

“My goal is to help other IR folks with enrollment modeling. Whether they are a seasoned expert or a true novice, I’m sure we’ll all learn a great deal from each other. Additionally I hope that we can develop an informal network of modelers who can share ideas and best practices,” notes Dr. Johnson.

Rapid Insight will be providing copies of their Predictive Analytics and Data Intelligence software, as well as support staff to assist in the workshop. There is still space available for institutions looking to participate but space is limited. There is no cost to attend and lodging options are available nearby.
