Registration Open for University of Maryland Project Management Symposium

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland Project Management Center for Excellence has announced that registration is now open for the second annual Project Management Symposium, taking place June 8-9, 2015, at the Stamp Student Union on the University of Maryland (UMD) campus in College Park, MD.

With five highly esteemed project management experts topping this year’s keynote line-up, and a unique opportunity for attendees to tailor their event experience to meet their specific interests, this two-day symposium is sure to draw a record crowd. Those interested in attending the 2015 symposium are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this year's early bird registration rates by registering by April 1.

Following the success of last year's capacity event, UMD's Project Management Center for Excellence is proud to name Dr. Ed Hoffman (NASA), Ms. Karen Richey (U.S. Government Accountability Office), Dr. Harold Kerzner (International Institute for Learning), Mr. Chip Hastie (Clark Construction) and Ms. Jocelyn Davis (Nelson Hart LLC) featured speakers for the second annual symposium.

Together, the five help comprise this year's star-studded roster of expert speakers, which includes project management professionals across government, industry and academe.

Both Hoffman and Richey will offer unique perspectives from their respective agencies. Hoffman serves as NASA's Chief Knowledge Officer and works within NASA as well as with external leaders to develop the agency's capabilities in program and project management and engineering. Richey is a senior cost analyst with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (U.S. GAO), where she championed the GAO Cost Estimating and Assessment Guide, which is now used throughout the U.S. government and abroad for guiding practice in program and project planning.

Switching gears, Kerzner will provide an academic view of the field of project management. A former professor of both engineering and business administration, Kerzner currently serves as Senior Executive Director for Project Management for the International Institute for Learning, and has published or presented numerous engineering and business papers, as well as more than 50 college textbooks on project management.

To complement Hoffman, Richey and Kerzner, Hastie will provide an industry perspective of project management, as he delves into key topics in integrated project delivery and insights gleaned as vice president of Clark Construction. Additionally, Davis, co-founder of women-owned consulting firm Nelson Hart, will share a unique perspective of project management — blending financial management, positive psychology, and subjective well-being analysis expertise — during her presentation, "The Happy Project Manager."

All told, the 2015 Project Management Symposium will feature more than 55 guest speakers to support the goal of “Connecting Academically Rigorous Research with Practical Applications.”

As the Baltimore-Washington region's premier project management symposium, this event is a high-value opportunity for project management professionals seeking insights on topics ranging from agile project management, communications and construction management, to federal project management, positive psychology and sustainability. Attendees are invited to explore each of these topic areas or craft their own experience by choosing those sessions that meet their specific interests. Even more, attendees can earn up to 15 professional development units (PDUs) toward maintaining a PMI credential.
