Celebrating Thirty Years of Music In Our Schools

Sixty Teachers from 23 States, One Amazing Concert

Reston, Va. —This year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®). People around the country are joining in the celebration. Every year, MIOSM is commemorated in March to highlight the critical importance music education serves in every student’s education, and the amazing role music teachers serve in preparing our nation’s next leaders and innovators.

The “Music Makes Me __________!” theme encourages teachers, students, and supporters alike to raise awareness of the benefits of learning music, and the ways that music can empower and enrich lives.

Bus Tour: From March 7-14, during week-long bus tour, powered by Radio Disney, Valory Music Co. singer/songwriter RaeLynn will visit five schools where student ensembles will perform her song “Always Sing.” A highlight at each location will be a special private concert by RaeLynn. Give a Note Foundation, in partnership with the National Association for Music Education, selected each school to be honored as part of the Music In Our Schools tour for their music programs’ outstanding achievements and recognizing the important role music education plays in their students’ daily curriculum.

The Concert for Music In Our Schools Month: In an innovative online concept for the annual Concert for Music In Our Schools Month®, student video performances from across the U.S. and Europe well be featured on the NAfME website throughout March. All music students, educators, parents, and supporters are encouraged to view these videos in celebration of the importance of school music programs. The Concert for MIOSM (formerly known as the World’s Largest Concert) features songs appropriate for K–12 students.

Always Sing” is the newest addition to the Concert. Recording artist RaeLynn debuted “Always Sing,” a song she wrote with Nicolle Gaylon and Jimmy Robbins, at the 2014 National In-Service Conference. It’s an exciting tune that embodies the spirit of music education.

Student performances can be viewed http://www.nafme.org/programs/miosm/the-concert-for-music-in-our-schools-month/ from March 1 through March 31. The school video that receives the most views between March 1 and March 31, 2015, will win the Presonus Music Creation Software Suite.
