Carthage College Tower Residence Hall Earns Awards

APPLETON, WI – The Boldt Company was recently awarded two 2019 BUILD Wisconsin awards from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Wisconsin, including one for the Carthage College Tower Residence Hall in Kenosha, WI. Entries were judged on sustainable practices, craftsmanship, innovation in construction, and meeting difficult challenges.

The Carthage College project received a Commercial Projects, New Construction Award. The nine-story, 50,000-square-foot residence hall features suite-style housing for up to 126 students; two floors dedicated to shared common spaces; and an outdoor terrace with patio seating, grass courtyards, and a sand volleyball court. Unique craftsmanship includes exposed concrete surfaces and a custom wood slat ceiling and wall. The project team ensured the protection of the active campus community throughout construction.

“We are thankful to be recognized by the AGC of Wisconsin,” Dave Kievet, Boldt’s chief operating officer, says. “These awards are a powerful testament to the hard work, dedication, and skill of our people and industry collaborators. It is a great honor to be acknowledged alongside the many leaders in our industry who invest tremendous integrity, hard work, ingenuity, and commitment into each project.”

Earlier this year, the design of Carthage’s newest residence hall also drew an award from the Wisconsin chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. Workshop Architects and designer Lindsay Lisowski received a Silver Award in the organization’s Excellence in Design contest for their work on the Tower Residence Hall. Only two educational buildings statewide received awards.

Judging criteria included “appropriateness of design solution, functional use of space, innovative and creative use of space, scale and proportion, color composition, design elements, and commitment to sustainability.” The ASID chapter announced the awards March 21 at a ceremony in Milwaukee.

The Tower opened in August 2018.

Boldt will be honored at the AGC BUILD Wisconsin awards banquet on October 17 at The Edgewater Hotel in Madison, WI.
