DIGroup Selected as Design Architect for New NYC PreK–5 School

The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) recently selected DIGroup Architecture as the design architect for a new PreK–5 school to be built in the Bronx borough of New York City, N.Y. The facility represents the architecture firm’s first new construction design assessment in New York City, according to a news release, and it is scheduled to open its doors in September 2027.

The building will stand six stories and contain 100,000 square feet of floor space on a 21,780-square-foot lot across from Van Cortland Park, the news release reports. It will have a capacity for about 696 students.

“We are thrilled to continue working with the New York City School Construction Authority on this impactful community project,” said DIGroup Architecture CEO Jeffrey Venezia. “With every academic facility we take on, we strive to create a sustainable, safe, functional, and attractive facility that seamlessly complements the neighborhood in which it is built. This project will be no different—and we are looking forward to expanding our footprint and portfolio of projects with the largest school district in the nation.”

According to the news release, planned amenities for the new school include a gymnatorium; early-childhood playground; a play roof; a library; rooms for speech, occupational, and physical therapy; art, science, and music rooms; a kitchen; administrative space; and a medical suite.
