California District Opens New K–8 School

The Chino Valley Unified School District in Chino, Calif., recently announced that construction is complete on the new Legacy Academy K–8 School, according to a news release. The $51-million, 73,000-square-foot facility has the capacity for about 1,250 students from The Preserve at Chino, a master-planned residential community in San Bernadino County.

The district partnered with PBK Architects for the project’s design and builder C.W. Driver for its construction, which began in November 2022. The campus includes six one-story buildings with amenities like classrooms, STEM and science labs, administrative space, a multipurpose room, physical education facilities, a library, and an outdoor amphitheater, the news release reports.

“The new Legacy Academy school will help immensely in relieving the needs of Chino Valley Unified School District’s student overcrowding at The Preserve,” said C.W. Driver Companies project executive John Kately. “It is a welcome addition to the neighborhood with its state-of-the-art classrooms and multiple specialty facilities.”

According to the news release, C.W. Driver has previously partnered with Chino Valley USD  on projects like the modernization of Ayala and Don Lugo High Schools, as well as ten other elementary and junior high schools around the district.
