Indiana University Launches Capital Campus in D.C.

Indiana University recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new IU Capital Campus in Washington, D.C., according to university news. The eight-story facility will provide a central hub for the university’s existing programs and business operations based in D.C., uniting them under one roof and providing the opportunity to expand. The new campus was established with the ultimate goal of expanding student opportunities, furthering policy engagement and academic research, and strengthening relationships with local government and industry partners.

The building includes amenities like academic classrooms, meeting and event spaces, offices, and on-site student housing, the news release reports.

“By bringing our students, faculty and alumni closer to the institutions and conversations shaping our world, we are opening doors to life-changing experiences, elevating IU research and preparing tomorrow’s leaders to serve with purpose and impact,” said Indiana University President Pamela Whitten. “Through the Capital Campus, our students will gain the real-world experience they need to lead in Indiana and beyond.”

Capital Campus plays home to the university’s Hamilton Lugar Washington, D.C., Global Policy Program; the Regionals Summer D.C. Program; the Washington Leadership Program; and the IU Internship in Politics, Opportunity, Leadership, Social Entrepreneurship.

“The Capital Campus gives our students direct access to the academic and professional experiences that can shape careers and change lives,” said Ken Iwama, IU’s vice president for regional campuses and online education. “It also creates a central gathering place for the IU community — including one of the university’s largest alumni chapters — to connect and collaborate. We can’t wait to see the innovation and impact that come out of the Capital Campus.”
