Texas A&M Opens First Building at Fort Worth Campus, Breaks Ground on Research Facility

The Texas A&M University System marked a major milestone in the development of its Fort Worth campus on Aug. 5 by opening its first completed academic building and breaking ground on a second facility designed to expand research and industry collaboration, according to a university news release. The dual celebration advances the university system's long-term vision for a mixed-use innovation district in downtown Fort Worth.

The newly opened Law & Education Building is an eight-story, 228,000-square-foot facility that will house the Texas A&M University School of Law alongside academic programs from Texas A&M and Tarleton State University in fields including engineering, business, healthcare, pharmacy and biotechnology. The building will also serve as home to six Texas A&M System agencies, creating opportunities for students, faculty and public-sector partners to work alongside industry on applied learning and research initiatives.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, university leaders broke ground on the 11-story Research & Innovation Building, which is scheduled for completion in 2029. The facility will support collaborative research in areas such as aerospace, engineering, agriculture, health sciences, biotechnology, transportation and food and nutrition science. Together, the two buildings will anchor the Switchyard Innovation District, a planned hub for education, research, entrepreneurship and workforce development in southeast downtown Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth campus represents a $1.5 billion investment that has been under development since 2022. According to the Texas A&M University System, the completed campus is projected to support more than 25,000 direct and indirect jobs while generating more than $3 billion in annual economic activity, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for economic growth and talent development in North Texas.
