Wyoming District Breaks Ground on New Elementary School
Laramie County School District #1 in Cheyenne, Wy., recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Mountain View Elementary School, according to a news release. The facility has an estimated completion date of summer 2028, and it will have the capacity for 650 students in fifth and sixth grade. The district partnered with JLG Architects for the project’s design.
The 92,500-square-foot facility is arranged into groups of seven classrooms, each with a common flexible learning space, the news release reports. Design aesthetics will include natural light and warm, earthy colors to soften the learning environment.
“Our goal has been to create a place for young learners to feel comfortable as they grow and explore in a warm welcoming environment,” said Ron Olsen, Principal at JLG Architects’ K–12 Education Studio. “For modernized safety, Mountain View will integrate multiple layers of security, as a means to help its users feel safe. It’s all about safety first and then you can learn. Learning increases when anxiety decreases.”
The project is part of the school district’s 2024–2030 facilities strategy to upgrade aging buildings, address capacity issues, and restructure enrollment and facilities needs across the district. Mountain View Elementary will become the district’s third and last campus for fifth- and sixth-graders; existing elementary schools will be repurposed as K–4 schools, according to the news release.
