CSU Dominguez Hills Finishes Construction on Two New Facilities

California State University, Dominguez Hills, in Carson, Calif., recently announced the completion of two new student-life facilities and a series of campus infrastructure upgrades, according to a news release. The university partnered with builder C.W. Driver Companies on the new Student Housing & Dining Commons; the Health, Wellness, and Recreation Center; and heat pump & electrical improvements.

The Health, Wellness, and Recreation Center measures 69,400 square feet, and it was designed to achieve LEED Gold status. Amenities include a fitness center, jogging track, basketball court, multi-activity court, and a swimming pool featuring a hydrotherapy spa, according to the news release.

“Student wellness facilities are just as important as academic buildings,” said C.W. Driver project executive John Kately. “We are grateful to continue our longstanding relationship with CSU Dominguez Hills to deliver facilities that will champion students in all areas of life.”

The Student Housing & Dining Commons consists of two buildings: a four-story, 63,140-square-foot residential facility with 288 beds; and a 17,500-square-foot Dining Commons with a capacity of 350. The Dining Commons will feature a main dining room and outdoor dining options, and it was designed to achieve the LEED Silver equivalent rating.

“Over the past decade, C.W. Driver has played an important role in enhancing the campus experience at CSU Dominguez Hills,” said Yancey Modesto, associate vice president, facilities planning, design, and construction with the university. “We’re confident that these new facilities will foster new connections and support our students throughout their time here.”

Finally, the Heat Pump Project and Electrical Infrastructure Project involved installing new heat pump equipment, a new utility switchyard, transformers, and switchgear to improve the campus’ electrical distribution system, according to the news release.

  • Designing the Bridge Between Inclusivity and Independence in K–12 Schools

Fostering independence is fundamental to learning and development for K–12 students. It offers many proven benefits, such as enhanced confidence, problem-solving, decision-making, and social skills.
