Michigan District Breaks Ground on Sheridan Road School

The Lansing School District in Lansing, Mich., recently broke ground on the new Sheridan Road School, according to a district news release. The school will measure 61,525 square feet and serve students in grades 5–8. The $35-million facility was funded and approved through a $129.7-million district bond initiative that local voters approved in May 2022.

The facility will include 22 classrooms, including dedicated space for art and music; a gymnasium; a library; a cafeteria and performance space; flexible classrooms; and upgraded technology.

"The foundation is not just for a new building, but for a new Lansing School District. One that provides a space where kids can learn, thrive, grow, and be part of our wonderful Lansing community," said Jessica Benavides, Superintendent of Schools.

According to the project website, the new campus will have a capacity of about 1,004 and is scheduled to open in fall 2028. The bond initiative also encompassed replacement facilities for Mt. Hope School, Willow School, and Lewton School, as well as renovations to Sexton Auditorium at J.W. Sexton High School.
