The College of Western Idaho's (CWI) 58,512-square-foot Health and Science Building brings a wide range of health and science programs together in a centralized hub on the Nampa campus. As the first completed building in a planned campus quad, it establishes a cohesive collegiate identity and sets the tone for a unified, welcoming higher education environment. Prominently located at a primary campus approach, the building serves as a visible expression of the CWI brand that will carry through future development.
Designed to advance experiential learning, the facility creates an immersive environment for students, faculty, and healthcare partners. State-of-the-art simulation suites, adaptable labs, diverse classroom settings, conference rooms, offices, lockers, kitchen, and collaborative study spaces support hands-on instruction and flexible use.
Originally planned at 45,000 square feet with future shell space, the project expanded mid-construction to address rapid enrollment growth. Through close coordination and strategic design solutions, the team seamlessly incorporated the additional square footage, opening on schedule while preserving flexibility for future phases.
Inspired by the systems of the human body, the design expresses structural and mechanical elements in shared spaces while protecting specialized labs for safety and sanitation. Daylighting, energy efficiency, and healthy materials further reinforce the building's mission to support wellness, learning, and sustainable campus growth.
